The 30-Day Brake Down, A Unique Solution

Why should you be excited about the 30-Day Brake Down?  Here are the top five reasons why instructors should be excited about the 30-Day Brake Down:

Helps instructors to be "Monday Morning Ready."  There are a variety of full day trainings available that claim to make instructors "Monday Morning Ready" after simply completing the training.  It may be true that the information in a day of training is sufficient to prepare any instructor for teaching class.  However, 9 hours of information is quite a bit of information.  The 30-Day Brake Down helps to take the information presented in the full day training, and bring it slowly and intentionally into the cycle studio.

Develop Skills More Thoroughly.  While 9 hours is a long time for learning, it is not nearly enough time to delve into the details for all of the topics covered.  By revisiting topics over an extended period of time, the instructor is able to explore more thoroughly the various skills they acquire during the training.

Helps Member Satisfaction with the New Product.  After an instructor goes through the 9 hour training, they come away filled with excitement about the power console.  Members who are attending class, however, do not have 9 hours worth of background information and can feel overwhelmed if the instructor tries to bring all elements of the power console into the class immediately.  The 30-Day Brake Down helps instructors to teach members over time and allow them to transition to the new device as well.

The 30-Day Brake Down offers unique programming.  This is a huge value add and comes with the training FREE OF CHARGE.  Instead of 9 hours worth of training, instructors receive closer to 20 hours of training for the same price!

More training, same price!  As previously mentioned, there is no increase to the cost of the Instructor Essentials training.  This is merely a value add to what was previously offered.  The Stages Indoor Cycling team values the feedback of our customers and we heard requests for more information and help implementing the great tools already provided.  The 30-Day Brake Down is the first part of our answer to this feedback!

The 30-Day Brake Down is designed to support instructors through a step-by-step transition to teaching with the FreeMotion power console.  Each day provides one point of focus to reinforce all components of the training and help members to learn the different elements of the console and new bike.  After this program, instructors will be able to...

  •         Unveil the console to their class
  •         Invite members to engage
  •         Implement FastFit
  •         Improve through goals
  •         Learn guidelines for great music
  •         Receive FREE playlists
  •         Establish best practice battery care
  •         Navigate console settings
  •         Acquire maintenance tips and tricks
  •         And much, much more!

This is a unique added bonus to the Stages® Indoor Cycling Instructor Essentials training! Post-training continuing education provides security and confidence that will carry instructors well beyond a single day of learning and into successful implementation of their Stages Indoor Cycling Power Program!

New! The 30-Day Brake Down

More often than not, instructors using the FreeMotion® bike and power console have not had power consoles in their indoor cycling room before. When brand new bikes boasting gleaming power consoles suddenly arrive unexpectedly, it can be intimidating to introduce them to riders and incorporate them into class.  After all, instructors are the voice of authority in a cycle class.  How can anyone be the voice of authority unless they are fully equipped themselves to educate with this new tool?  Even if an instructor has had experience with a power console, they may not have had resources available to use them well or to use them to their full potential.

The Stages® Indoor Cycling Instructor Essentials course was designed to help instructors bring new elements to a cycle program.  In the 9 hour live Instructor Essentials program, instructors learn enough information to last for a full college introduction course (or so it may seem)!  There is a lot to take in in a single day.  To help instructors fully absorb all of the information introduced in their full day training, Stages® Indoor Cycling has developed additional programming, which carries instructors through the first 30 days after their training and provides additional, step-by-step support to implement Power into their program.  This new program comes complimentary with the purchase of a Stages® Indoor Cycling Instructor Essentials training.

What Good is Power If the Batteries Run Out?!

As we have worked with instructors and GroupEx directors in planning the Stages Indoor Cycling trainings for the FreeMotion indoor cycling bikes, we have heard a lot of questions about the batteries in the power console and crank arm.  The following questions seem to be the most pressing:  How long do the batteries last?  Are they easy to replace?  What types of batteries does the system use?  Can we use rechargeable batteries?  These are all valid questions.  The consoles are an investment, and we'd like to assist you in keeping them in working order!

The life of the batteries depends on several variables.  The biggest drainers on the batteries are the frequency of use (classes per week utilizing the console) and the amount of use of the backlight.  The more classes your facility has, the faster the batteries will go.  Additionally, if your facility has a dimly lit cycling room and riders are using the backlight button frequently, this drains the battery more quickly.  One quick fix to help this is to be sure that in the maintenance menu, the backlight is set to stay on for 5 seconds rather than 15 or 30 seconds when it is pushed.

The simple solution to ensure that your bikes always have fresh working batteries is to implement a rechargeable battery change program.  Rechargeable batteries last as long as regular batteries, save time by not needing to be repurchased, and they are also more environmentally friendly!  We recommend that you purchase a full classroom set of batteries plus about 5-10 more sets, depending on how many bikes are in your space.  Each month, change the batteries on 5-10 of your bikes even if they are not running low.  By keeping this pattern, you will create a routine which prevents any bikes from running out of batteries or any bikes being "down" while you wait for the batteries to charge.  You also avoid having to spend a large chunk of time replacing an entire room full of batteries at once. After a while, you will forget that the batteries ever run low!

The power sensor in the crank arm requires two AA batteries and can be changed by removing one screw with a Phillips screwdriver.  The power console uses three C-cell batteries and is removable without the use of any tools.  The battery requirements are quite simple and are definitely worth the endless benefits that data from the power system provides!

Never Before Seen in an Indoor Cycling Room...

At the IHRSA International Convention and Tradeshow last March, FreeMotion unveiled the new Carbon Drive™ system indoor cycling bikes.  They are now ready to ship and are entering facilities for the first time!

These bikes are very similar to their S series chain drive system counterparts and are compatible with the FreeMotion Power Console, but with one key difference: the carbon fiber laced drive system.  This is a brand new system, never before used on indoor cycling bikes!  Here is a summary of the benefits of this amazing, new technology.

  • •  NO ONE else offers this product!  The FreeMotion S Series are the only indoor cycling bikes to offer the Gates® Carbon Drive™ option.  Although you can find Carbon Drive™ on race cars and outdoor bikes, this is a unique, exclusive product to offer within the indoor cycling world.

  • •  5 Year Warranty on the drive system!  No one else offers this kind of warranty on a drive system.  The Gates® Carbon Drive™ does not stretch, break or require lubrication.  After over 5,000 hours of lab testing, the system showed zero signs of wear and tear.

  • •  Savings in maintenance over 5 years can total thousands of dollars!  Over time, cost of time and product to lubricate, replace and/or repair chains or belts can total thousands of dollars.  With the maintenance-free Carbon Drive™, all these costs are eliminated.

  • •  Answers the #1 complaint against chain drive bikes.  The Carbon Drive™ system is quiet like a belt but preserves the "outdoor" feel and performance of a chain.  The Carbon Drive™ is the only non-chain option that allows a 5:1 gear ratio which contributes to a high inertia system and gives the rider the smooth (and now significantly quieter!) feel of an outdoor ride.

  • •  Check out the Gates® Carbon Drive™ FaceBook page for additional pictures and information on the Carbon Drive™ system!
